Ellen Adams grew up in Spokane, Washington, a short drive from the Idaho border and Coeur d'Alene Lake. She played her first solo show at fifteen. She has since called the following places home: Paris, Granada, the Ojai valley, and Chiang Mai, Thailand.

She studied Comparative Literature, Creative Writing and Urban Studies at Princeton University. She is an MFA candidate at Brooklyn College.
